Garage door repair in San Anselmo
San Anselmo is our closest neighbor, about four minutes over the hill when roads are clear. It also holds the best detached-housing numbers in our service area, with 81% of the ZIP's homes detached single-family houses. It's an old town on top of that, more than a quarter of the housing predating 1940 and another fifth from the 1950s, grown up around the Hub where the old rail lines split.
The housing, and what it means for doors
Craftsman-era and pre-war homes on the flats near downtown and the creek, mid-century on the hill edges. The garages tell the town's age. Original openings that have settled for eighty years, single-car widths, and plenty of detached garages at the back of deep lots. The Hub, where Sir Francis Drake, Red Hill and Center converge, is still the town's junction the way it was in the rail era.
San Anselmo in numbers
Housing and vehicle figures are American Community Survey 2024 five-year estimates. The Census counts vehicles, not garages.
Worth knowing locally
San Anselmo Creek runs straight through downtown, and the town has flooded repeatedly: 1925, 1940, 1955, 1963, 1982 and 2005, with the January 1982 storm sending water five feet deep down San Anselmo Avenue and causing over four million dollars of damage downtown.
What we expect to find
Water, in a specific way. On the creek flats, a garage is often the lowest opening on the house, and a door with perished bottom seal is how storm water gets in. Before the rains, it's worth checking that the bottom rubber actually meets the slab along its whole width and that the tracks aren't rusting at the feet. Up on the hill streets it's the opposite problem, eighty years of settling and doors that bind because the frame has moved.
Getting to San Anselmo
The easiest run we have. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is the spine of the whole Ross Valley, and downtown San Anselmo is two miles from our door. This is the town where a same-day call is most likely to become a within-the-hour call.
